John Brommel Welding Workshop Sign-up

Metal artist John Brommel's work, a Des Moines native, has been creating with carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum and bronze for over 36 years. John has invented dozen's of unique techniques, such as brass on stainless, seen only on his work.  "Much of the welding I have done on electrical generating stations, chemical plants and refineries was 100% X-Ray. This means that every weld was X-Rayed and the result was required to be perfect," says Brommel.

He is consistently coming up with new ideas to push the boundaries of metal sculpture and the students of the Curiel-Reynolds School of Visual Arts got their first in-depth look at his artistry on Labor Day of 2009 when he gave an informal talk about his techniques.

His presentation was so exciting to all in attendance that we'd like him to return.  If you are interested in his workshop, please call us at 712-580-5035 and place your name on the workshop sign-up sheet.  We will announce date and time of workshop in the near future.

The first day will be all about discussion. In the morning he will teach a class focused on the professional welder that would like to improve their TIG and X-Ray welding skills to ultimately produce clean, precise welds on any metal. In the afternoon of the first day Brommel will focus more on using these same welding skills to create fine art.

The second day will be 100% hands-on for the students -- working side-by-side with this remarkable metal artist.  A minimum of 10 students are necessary.

This photo with the artist and his art is a portion of the sculpture "Pulling Together". The entire piece can be viewed online at:  www.myspace.com/johnbrommel
