Clay County 4-H Partners with Curiel Reynolds School of Visual Arts Spring and Summer of 2010
The ISU Extension Clay County 4-H program and the Curiel Reynolds School of Visual Arts are pleased to announce three glass art workshop series available for students grades 9-12. Workshops will be taught by Jon Curiel of CRVA.
“This is rare opportunity for students to work in a small group setting with a talented artisan,” remarked Jo Engel, ISUE Clay County Program Coordinator. “We are proud to be a part of this partnership, to offer students something unique that reflects the culturally rich area we live in.”
Students do not need to be a 4-H member to participate, but membership discounts are available. The workshops will center on creating glass beads and glass fusing as an art form. Each series can be taken as the initial beginner class only, or as a series of four workshops. The first series focuses on creating glass beads using a torch. This class will be an intimate working environment, and the class size is limited to four students. This class is offered Thursdays, April 22-May 13 from 4-6 pm.
The second series will familiarize the students with different types of glass and combining them using a kiln. Students will use both glass and metal to create an art object. This class is limited to eight students and is offered Tuesdays, June 1-22 from 1-3 pm. Registrations for all classes are accepted at the Clay County Extension Office until full.
The third series will teach students the modern techniques of stained glass work. Techniques of copper foil and lead cane will be discussed and employed. Basic concepts of design will be reviewed and each student will create a stained glass piece. The beginner class for this series is a set of two training days, or you can sign up for all four classes in the series.
Prices for the workshops range from $25-115 and include safety equipment for class time supplied by CRVA.
For more information, contact the Clay County Extension Office. Registration forms can be picked up at 110 West 4th Street, Spencer. |
